Valentines Gift Ideas

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 1:47 am on Friday, November 21, 2008

It’s that time of year again when we are all in search of the ultimate Valentines Gift ideas for that special day. Valentines Day comes year after year and let’s face it most of us are reduced to uninspired purchases such as heart shaped chocolates, flowers, or we get really desperate and buy the all popular red teddy bear. You’re not alone we have all made the mistake of repeat gift giving for no other reason than…last minute shopping.

Last minute shopping is at an all time high for most occasions including Valentines day and Christmas. Statistics revealed that the majority of Americans only start their shopping at least two days before the big day. Does this mean that we are living mechanically, barely getting through the daily grind, or are we just simply uninspired?

Most of us live in a blur of events, a hustle and bustle that weaves our existence from one day to the next. Work, school, kids, programs, birthdays, holidays…there’s so much going on that we live uninspired lives.

Well it’s never too late. You can still pull it together if you allow yourself to be inspired with new and original Valentines gift ideas. Start by taking some time to really absorb the richness of the holiday. It’s a day of love, of appreciation for those we care for. It’s a day set aside from all other days when we can stand up to the plate and really declare our love for that special someone.

You need a plan before you go into a store and succumb to buying something you didn’t give any thought to. Think about the one you love and how that person makes you feel. Your gift should reflect that. Think about what that person values, what they treasure and what will put a smile on their face.

Here are a few Valentines gift ideas that might inspire you to reach a little further to make somebody’s day one they will never forget.

1. Write a love letter and attach it to your present - this way you’re not just signing your name to something someone else wrote. (If you want to add to that you can spray the envelope with a romantic scent to create the mood).

2. Make a coupon book - you can get as creative as you want!

3. Valentines Day treasure hunt - leave notes with clues your special someone can follow that will lead them to a special treasure.

4. Put together a basket - with a theme of course, filled with treasures like candles, wine and other trinkets.

5. Turn a picture into a painting - you can have a painting created from a photo done right at your local photo developing studio.

6. Valentine Love Plaque - cards gets stored in drawers and boxes but a plaque hangs on a wall or shelf where it can be read everyday.

Whatever way you choose to celebrate the holiday make it count for something special. Get inspired, be inventive, and most importantly, give from the heart!

Emotional Affair or Friendship?

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 11:20 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2008

In a marriage, what are the limits for friendship with a member of the opposite sex? Who sets these limits? What is the difference between a friendship and an emotional affair? Is emotional affair wrong? Does emotional affair help the marriage by letting a partner vent out all emotional frustration, which otherwise he/she would not have done with his/her marriage partner? Or does it kill the marriage?

What is an emotional affair?

Most of us have friendships. Many of us are very close in some friendships. We share quite a lot in such friendships. But when one develops such a close friendship with one from the opposite sex, it can be termed as an emotional affair. Sharing intimate emotional details with someone of opposite sex is an emotional affair. This the the common definition. It also includes the clause that you are keeping your partner unaware about the emotional bond you share with someone else.

Does it hurt marriage?

It hurts marriage if after knowing about the details shared, the spouse feels that trust was violated. If the emotional affair becomes strong, it may so happen that one may begin sharing more emotional details with one’s friend than with one’s spouse. That hurts the spouse and may also lead to a break up.

Why do people have emotional affair?

It is being debated that emotional affair is purely emotional or it is begun because of physical attraction. Does one need a friend of opposite sex to share emotional details? why not one of your own sex? And why does one feel uncomfortable with one’s spouse about this bond? All pointers go in one direction - An emotional affair may be the way one wants to begin a physical relationship with another outside marriage. otherwise if one want to have emotional sharing, or to vent out feelings, one can easily consult a psychiatrist and tell all to feel relieved and get advise. Or one can chose a friend of the same sex.

How to avoid emotional affair?

One who is involved in an emotional affair needs to ask himself/herself - Is this only emotional? why do I need this person to talk about everything? one must reflect. Talk it out with one’s spouse. Let your head control your heart for a moment and think about the marriage and the bond. this may help in better understanding of emotional affair and coming out of it.

Saying sorry after having an emotional affir is the first step. Send these eCards to say Sorry and begin rebuilding your marraige.

I Cannot Believe Myself , I acted like a thorn , I feel miserable , I lost my senses and I am sorry

The Use of the Fashion Model’s Zed Card

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 5:18 pm on Wednesday, November 19, 2008

The Use of the Model’s Zed Card

A Zed Card (Comp Card, Zed Card, or Model Card) is the number one marketing tool for a model. They serve as a model’s portfolio, business card and interview. A comp card typically contains a collection of 2 or more pictures and the models basic stats - height, eye color, etc. - printed on 2 sides of an 8.5″ x 5.5″ piece of card stock (12 pt stock.) Comp cards have been around for many years as the essential marketing tool for a model and they will retain this standing because they are an inexpensive way to effectively and professionally showcase a model’s ability. Composite cards are used on three major levels - they are used at first by models, then by agents and lastly by the agent’s clients.

Level 1 - Models use composite cards to promote themselves to modeling agents. When a model attends an open call they will typically meet with the agent, have their portfolio reviewed and briefly be interviewed. Open calls are mostly busy, so not a lot of time can be dedicated to each person trying out. When the interview is over, the model leaves their composite card behind - never their portfolio. When the open call is over the agents will gather to discuss the turn out. This is where the composite card comes in to play. When the agents are discussing who they liked and didn’t, they can refer to the composite cards. This card is the only reference that the agents have to your portfolio and ability. A good card is going to leave a much better impression of professionalism, experience, ability and expertise than a snap shot or nothing at all.

Level 2 - After a model has been contracted with an agency, it becomes the agents responsibility to market the model (that doesn’t mean the model should stop promoting themselves.) You will notice that agencies usually displayed their comp cards in racks on their walls. This is done for the same purpose that an art gallery displays art work. The intention of displaying the composite cards is to give any visiting client a visual catalog of the talent that are available, and in turn making the modeling agents task of finding materials and promoting their models easier. Although this aesthetic pleasing display is this an effective method to boost bookings, it is not the primary marketing method. Agents primarily send composite cards via mail to photographers, producers, art directors, magazine editors, other modeling agents, and many other potential clients.

Level 3 - This stage is for the ones who pay the bills - commonly referred to as the “clients.” Once the comps have been sent to the clients, it is entirely in their hands to decide who they want to use. Yes your agent should put some good words in for you, but ultimately it is the clients decision. From this point the client may choose you directly, or they may want to meet you. But either way they are going to pursue you further only because they have seen your look - and this is almost always first seen on your composite card. Clients usually retain an index of all of the cards that they have received so they can refer to a visual guide when selecting models. Some clients may have anywhere from 100 - 1000 models indexed in their company. This is why you need a good, professional comp card that makes a great first impression.

The ultimate success of a comp card is going to come down to the quality of the photography that appears on it. The quality of the photography stems from the quality and talent of the model along with the professionalism and creativity of the photographer and his or her team. The better your photography is, the better your zed card will be. On the front of your card you will want an eye-catching shot that sets the stage for the type of model you are. For markets like Minneapolis, San Francisco, and Kansas City a smiling shot works great since these are commercial markets. However, markets like New York, Los Angeles and Paris will be best approached with a high fashion photo on the front.

Most importantly good production is key. Good production will make your photos look better, and bad production will bring the quality way down. Bad production makes you look as unprofessional as bad photography.

Paying for it on Your Own

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 9:32 pm on Tuesday, November 18, 2008

So your sister was awarded a full ride to her first choice
school with the intent to double major in bio-molecular
chemistry and electro-physics and your brother (who was actually
getting paid to go to school) just finished his last football
season. Cursing your parents for giving away all the really good
genes before you had a chance to nab your fair share isn’t going
to help but with a little creativity, you too can find a way to
put yourself through college. Aside from the traditional
scholarships offered to those who are blessed with the diligence
to live life with their faces in books, or the grace and
athleticism of a gazelle, there is also a plethora of
scholarships for those of us who are darn proud of what we do
but don’t quite make it too the coveted over-achiever status.
Many of us have heard the stories of the friend of a friend who
didn’t have to pay a dime for their education simply because
they were left handed or happened to measure in over 6′ 2″. And
though these tales seem too good to be true, rest assured there
is nothing fabricated about it (honestly, who could make this
stuff up?) and these types of financial backing may be more
available than you realize. Whether you pride yourself on your
duck call or you think your um, unique fashion sense combined
with your passion for duck tape merits a little assistance from
a third party, look around and it’s likely to be out there. Some
of the more strange scholarships we found include everything
from an apple pie baking contest (first prize gets $25,000 to
the Culinary Institute of America’s) to one that encourages
young minds to study the Klingon language; naturally this one is
given by the Klingon Language Institute. Certain celebrities can
also at times be counted on to share their own wealth such as
the interest David Letterman is known for displaying through his
scholarship fund awarded for outstanding creativity. Search far
and wide and you’re sure to find a group that wants to support
you just for being you, or maybe even just because they had
supported your grandmother through school! But a word to the
wise, before counting all your eggs or putting all your chickens
in one basket take the time to make sure your beloved benefactor
is legitimate. Be aware of groups who request to remain
anonymous (even from you) or are making outlandish requests from
you in return for their so-called generosity. And finally, when
it comes to applying to scholarships don’t be afraid to be
greedy. Apply for as many as you are interested in and you may
be surprised as to how much money your future is worth to other
people. If the scholarship route isn’t for you there are other
ways of paying for school on your own (and I don’t mean that in
a creepy
meet-me-behind-the-student-union-next-Thursday-at-3-a.m. kind of
way). There are plenty of financial institutions out there that
are more than happy to help the struggling fledglings out there
with enticingly low interest rates, long repayment terms, and
flexible application deadlines. Student loans can be taken out
for as little as $1,000 or as much as $50.000 per year with the
option to defer payments on the principal for up to six months
after graduation. And better yet they can usually be obtained
from any banking establishment where you are a current account
holder as well as any number of organizations which exist
specifically for the purpose of helping you get through this
(expensive) phase of life. Some of the top name student loan
companies include Sallie Mae, Nellie Mae, and Educaid each
having several different payment plans for both graduate and
undergrad students. The morale of the story kids, being asked
to pay for your own education is a huge obstacle but it doesn’t
have to be an insurmountable one. Just remember: ask and ye
shall receive; help can come in the most unlikely forms, just
ask. For more information pertaining to student financial advice

Go For Gold Not Silver

Growing up, I was always told that I should not accept second best in life. We only have one shot at life, as far as we know at present, therefore you need to make the most of it. This article talks about this subject.

At the age of around twelve, I was bought a five foot snooker table for my birthday. This was something I had wanted for quite a long time and I have to say, it is probably the best present I was ever bought and I quickly became hooked on playing the game.

I would play snooker, either with friends or on my own, I did not care. My dream was to be the next Steve Davis, however I was aware that the chances of this happening were extremely slight.

Around six months later, I joined a local snooker hall with three of my friends, this is where we could play on full size tables. The sheer size of the tables came as quite a shock and at the start it was difficult to pot even what should have been the simple shots. The table was twelve foot by six foot which was more than twice the size of my table at home.

We started to play every week. We were very impressed with the club and found out that it offered free coaching for children under the age of sixteen on a Saturday morning. The coach who was called Glen and who was aged around thirty at the time asked us if we would like to attend. He was a larger than life character and a very good snooker player. We all decided to turn up on the next Saturday, it was free after all. There were snooker tournaments every month as well as coaching and they gave us free drinks and toast.

The first aim of all of the people who played on the Saturday morning was to score a twenty break as not one of us had ever had a twenty break. I was extremely determined that it would be me and listened carefully to what I was being taught and tried hard to implement it into my game.

My progress was quite rapid and to my amazement I was the first person to score that elusive twenty break. People around the snooker table I was playing on started to applaud and I was walking around with a beaming smile on my face. I felt on top of the world.

Glen who was on the other side of the room wondered over to find out what all of the noise was about. I thought he would be so proud of me and happy at my achievement, however he stated that if I could score twenty, I could score thirty. He told me to stop messing about and smiling, and to re-concentrate on the job in hand.

I had been brought straight back down to earth and was a bit gutted to say the least. This lesson was a very good one for me to learn at such an early age and I eventually went on to have breaks of over one hundred.

How to Optimize Accessibility and Mobility in Your Home

How to Optimize Accessibility and Mobility in Your Home

1. When assistive devices are being used in the home there is sometimes a problem with doorways being too narrow. Some hardware stores have hinges that allow the door to open and drop back in line with the frame and provide an extra few inches for access.

2. Remove the trim around the inside edge of the door from the floor to the midway point of the frame. This will add an extra half inch to the door way and may be enough to allow a wheelchair or walker to pass through.

3. Remove the standard door and install a bypass door on overhead track.

4. Mount an adjustable mirror above the stove if you are in a wheelchair so you can see into the pots on the stove from your chair.

5. Take the hand rims off a wheelchair to make it just a bit narrower.,

6. Buy a reacher to use for turning burners off and on if they are located across the back of the stove. This is helpful for persons in a wheelchair as well as someone with restricted movement in their shoulders and arms.

7. Buy a roll of that “waffle” or non skid shelf liner at the hardware or kitchen store and cut into circles that fit over jar lids. It makes opening jars and bottles easier.

8. Speciality stores sell cutlery with large handles for people with arthritis or impaired use due to stroke. They are expensive. Try wrapping your own kitchen utensils with foam pipe wrap from the hardware store.

9. Another option is to buy a long handled parfait spoon and bend the handle into a loop. This allows the user to wrap their fingers around the loop and does not require them to grip as tightly.

10. Buttons on heavy winter coats can be a problem for arthritic or cold hands. Try using elastic thread on the buttons. That bit of extra give makes them easier to do up.

11. As we age our eyes take longer to adjust to the darkness. Use night lights to make nocturnal visits to the fridge or bathroom safer. Use a plastic drink glass for next to the bed or in the bathroom to eliminate the chance of cuts.

12. Make sure phones have oversize lit key pads so they can be easily seen and used in an emergency . DO NOT program 911 into the auto dial on the phone. If it is touched in error a call will go out and waste valuable emergency services time and resources.

13. Phones that must be turned on or off by pushing a button are a good choice. Do not place the bedroom phone on the floor next to the bed or on a soft piece of furniture such as a chair or footstool. This may sound logical but many a relative has been frantic when they could not reach Granny for hours, only to drive 50 miles and find the phone off the hook.

14. Mount battery operated lights in closets or cupboards that do not have lights in them. Put scarves, hats and gloves in baskets that can be easily reached to avoid stretching to reach the top shelf.

15. There are all sorts of gadgets out there to automate lights indoors and out. Don’t forget the exterior of your home. Be safe. Have lights on near the entrance and from the driveway to the door. Decrease the chance of tripping. If you arrive home with a car full of parcels wait until daylight to unload them.

16. If turning lights off or on is a problem because of stiff fingers or reaching across a table or chair is required to locate the switch, try one of the many items now available. There are peddles that can be stepped on to activate lamps and lamp bases that only need to be touched to turn on the light.

17. A tennis ball cut and slipped over a door knob also makes it easier to grip and turn.

18. Keys with large round tops are also easier to manage. If possible get new keys made with these tops. Some have rubberized, colour rims on them for easier grip and identification on a full key chain.

20. If zippers are hard to manage add a tassel, large loop or cord so stiff fingers don’t have to work so hard.

21. Mattresses and upholstered furniture should be vacuumed regularly. Dust mites live in ALL carpets and furniture, even in a clean home. They can aggravate breathing problems and allergies if not kept under control. Everyone’s tolerance is different.

22. Put a chair or bench close to the entrance so there is a place to sit and remove or put on shoes. Bending over or standing up too quickly can cause dizziness.

23. Rearrange furniture such as foot stools and side tables to allow for wider walkways and easier access with canes or walkers.

How to Tell If Your Child Is Depressed

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 6:34 am on Friday, November 14, 2008

Depression among children is a serious problem. Many children suffer from undiagnosed depression. With adults, depression symptoms tend to be straightforward and easily detected. Some children may have such obvious symptoms as constant sadness, lack of energy, lack of interest in previously pleasurable activities, inability to concentrate (not related to ADHD), being either unable to sleep, or sleeping too much, lack of appetite or overeating. Other children’s symptoms may be very different.

A child suffering from depression can be defiant, angry, aggressive, anxious, or withdrawn. She may have nightmares, be afraid to be away from her parents or withdraw from them, not want to go to school, and her grades may drop.

She may complain that no one likes her, or that she doesn’t have any friends. A child who begins giving away her possessions may be suicidal. Any time a child talks about dying or killing herself, take her seriously.

If a child is having these symptoms, it is vital that her doctor evaluate her. There are physical problems that can cause depression. After a thorough medical evaluation, if she does not have any physical problems, talking to her teacher(s) can be helpful. Getting feedback from school about how she is behaving in class, and how she gets along with her peers can give additional perspective on her symptoms.

Watch how she plays, and what she draws. Children reveal a great deal in their creative behaviors. Get an assessment from a therapist who specializes in treating children. She might need medication to help her. Depression is not a disorder that someone can “snap out of”. Respect how she feels. Even if her reason for feeling bad seems trivial to you, it’s gigantic to her.

As a parent, it’s important not to panic or blame oneself if a child is depressed. Make sure to give her attention in loving ways, spend special time with her, and reassure her that she won’t always feel this way, that things will get better. Hope is one of the most powerful tools you can give her.

Keep warm when training in winter

Filed under: Uncategorized — admin at 3:08 am on Friday, November 14, 2008

Winter is upon us, and believe it or not, now’s the perfect time to get back into the swing of things at the gym. Waking up at 4am in the blistering cold, to train before work, may not be everyone’s idea of the perfect workout. But it’s the cold weather that makes going to gym in winter so much more appealing to some.

Who in their right mind would give up an extra hour’s sleep, covered with warm, fluffy duvets in return for blood, sweat and tears at the gym? The answer is simple, serious fitness fanatics.

Winter gymming can be so much better, especially at this time, when preparing for upcoming competitions. There’s hardly any waiting around for machines to become available and you can workout with complete freedom, using any piece of equipment for as long as you want, without getting the eye from inpatient members. Not to mention having the complete set of dumbbells ready for you when you need them.

Winter training is also the time when the risk of hypothermia is at its greatest. Because of the amount of body heat that will be lost during exercise, you must always ensure that you maintain a comfortable temperature during your workouts. Keeping yourself warm during workouts is absolutely imperative; therefore your choice of clothing should go beyond designer labels and focus more on the amount of insulation it can provide.

When choosing clothing for winter workouts, avoid closely woven fabrics and heavy tracksuits, as they cannot provide a layer of air near the skin. This layer is needed to help maintain a suitable temperature. When your clothing traps air, it cannot conduct heat away from the body; therefore your clothes can help maintain a suitable temperature. Wearing your clothes in layers is also a good option, which will allow you to change the amount of insulation needed as you workout.

Tips for winter workouts

- Dress warm enough before stepping out into the cold

- Don’t assume because you have muscles of steel that you can step out into the cold with nothing but a training vest and pair of shorts. Bring out those warm tops and longs, and if need be, change when you get to gym, not before.

- Use your head: Always make sure you keep your head, hands and feet warm at all times. Wear gloves, warm socks and beanies before leaving the house.

- Peel it off: Remember to dress in layers for ease of temperature adjustments. When choosing layers opt for clothing that can provide a trapped layer of air near the skin.

- Stay tuned: always check the weather report the night before to ensure you are 100% prepared before you go out

- Wrapping it up: Heavy workouts can result in excessive sweating. Make sure that you are 100% dry before walking out into the cold after you’re done. If necessary, wrap a dry towel around your head (and ears) to keep your head warm.
