Newbie Neighbors

Newbie Neighbors Newbies are usually wild cards at the online poker table-it can be pretty tough to figure out what they’re thinking, because they don’t always know why they do what they do. As with any wild card, you don’t always know what you’re up against when you’re playing against a newbie, so it can be hard for some poker players to appreciate how fun it is to sit next to one. Sitting to a newbie’s right is like a gift-you just need to know what kind of newbie he is. These guys tend to alternate between calling stations and loose-passive online poker players, checking and folding at the first sign of trouble, so try to figure out which one he is and then play to his type. Newer players also tend to overvalue their hands, so if you’ve got a hand like two pair, you can usually count on a newbie to call you to the river with high to middle pair. I usually make if a point to ramp up the aggression when I’m sitting next to a newbie, because they have a nice way of folding when you want them to and betting with you when they want you to. Just watch out for the suckout.
